Osborne Refrigerators Scurry Racing returns to Entertain Crowds at HOYS

scurry-pic2The Osborne Refrigerators Scurry Racing will return to form part of the exciting line-up at this year’s Horse of the Year Show (7th – 11th October at Birmingham’s NEC). This thrilling competition is sponsored by Osborne Refrigerators and is considered one of the most exciting equestrian sports for both the participant and spectator.

Pairs of ponies pull a scurry vehicle around a twisting course at breath taking speed and the fastest pair clear wins. The aim of the competition is for the drivers to steer their ponies through a series of gates made up of between 12 to 14 pairs of cones. Each cone has a ball placed on top so if a pony or scurry cart makes contact with the cone the ball will fall off. This is when a penalty of 4 seconds will be added. For every subsequent ball which is knocked down a further 4 seconds are added. The winner is the team with the quickest overall time.

All teams competing will have been put through their paces throughout the summer, in a number of qualifying shows, in the run up to the final at HOYS.

Osborne Refrigerators have been huge supporters of equestrian sport for over 23 years. The company still manufacturers from their premises in Bognor Regis, which has been their base since 1960 and are the leading British manufacturer of refrigerators, designed for the chilling and storage of wines, beers, cold beverages and foodstuffs.

Managing Director, Jeff Osborne, a keen scurry driver himself, said, “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Scurry Racing at HOYS again this year. Scurry Racing is growing in popularity and hosting our finals at HOYS means we can promote it further to thousands of equestrian fanatics.”

The Osborne Refrigerators Scurry Challenge will take place during each performance. On Sunday 11th October a Celebrity Hurry Scurry will take place where Show Jumpers join a scurry team and a National Hunt jockey for a relay race in the Andrews Bowen International Arena.
