Zig and Zag, Rough and Tumble – The Osborne Refrigerators Scurry Racing returns to HOYS

scurry at hoysWhat they lack in size, they definitely make up for in speed! The Osborne Refrigerators Double Harness Scurry returns to this year’s Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) from the 6th – 10th October 2010 at the NEC, Birmingham. The small ponies and talented drivers go at unbelievable speeds through the Scurry Racing course in the hope of taking home the coveted Horse of the Year Show title.

Qualifiers will be hotly contested throughout summer so only the best combinations will make it through to compete in front of the HOYS crowd.

Pairs of ponies pull a scurry vehicle around a twisting course at breath taking speed and the fastest pair clear wins. The aim of the competition is for the drivers to steer their ponies through a series of gates made up of between 12 to 14 pairs of cones. Each cone has a ball placed on top so if a pony or scurry cart makes contact with the cone the ball will fall off resulting in a penalty of 4 seconds being awarded. For every subsequent ball which is knocked down a further 4 seconds are added. The winner is the team with the quickest overall time.

This event, supported by Osborne Refrigerators, is a definite crowd pleaser with thrills, spills and the mandatory humorous names! So whether you are cheering for Fred & Barney or Piglet & Eyore – this is a competition not to be missed.

Osborne Refrigerator’s Jeff Osborne, who will be competing in the Double Harness Scurry said: “The scurry classes at the Horse of the Year Show showcase the very best of the sport and the winner is a true Champion.  The competition is fast and furious requiring nerves of steel and great accuracy.  I’m looking forward to an exciting show.”

The Osborne Refrigerators Double Harness Scurry will take place during each performance until the final on Saturday 10th October. Visitors to the gala evening performance on Sunday 10th October will be treated to the Celebrity Hurry Scurry where a scurry combination team up with an International Show Jumper and a National Hunt Jockey to compete in a unique relay race.
