Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) is pleased to announce that the winner of the SEIB Racehorse To Riding Horse class will go forward to contest the Supreme Horse of the Year Championship at this year’s show.
The Racehorse To Riding Horse class has grown immensely in popularity since its first appearance at HOYS several years ago. Last year featured a poignant victory for former point-to-point jockey Katie Jerram and the ex-Brian Smart-trained Night Prayers. The class will take place in the Caldene Arena on Friday 5th October, with the Champion stepping forward to battle it out for the prestigious Supreme of the Year title on Sunday evening.
Helena Pettit, Managing Director of Grandstand Media Ltd, commented: “The retraining of racehorses to riding horses has dramatically improved over the past few years and the type of animal now coming forward for competition is of a quality a show like Horse of the Year Show cannot ignore. Grandstand is supportive of all the efforts to give former racehorses a new life and career, which is reflected in our decision to make them part of the Supreme Championship.”
Nicolina MacKenzie, Marketing Manager at South Essex Insurance Brokers, added: “It is so exciting to see the recognition ex-racehorses are now getting. This move for the Racehorse to Riding Horse Champion to be included in the Supreme proves that they are taken seriously as show horses and is testament to the success that can be achieved with an ex-racehorse. Several of our past Racehorse to Riding Horse Champions have gone on to compete with great success in open classes and it is fitting that the Racehorse Champion now has this extra opportunity to excel”.
The 2012 Horse of the Year Show will take place from 3rd – 7th October in the LG Arena at Birmingham’s NEC and will host the finals of the most highly-regarded national showing and show jumping championships. It will also host international show jumping, featuring stars from across the globe, and an exciting line-up of entertainment to be announced very soon. Visitors are advised to book their tickets early to avoid disappointment, particularly as some performances sell out rapidly year on year.
